Sunday 25th
November:
Chelsea 0 – 0 Manchester City
Football was not on the mind of the fans or the media before
the match, to be honest football wasn’t on the mind during or after the game either -
the teams played out a genuine contender for bore of the season. The dismal
performances matched the miserable weather, highlights of the game involved 2
headers and a chance where Aguero should have done better. All of the focus was
aimed at a balding, Spanish manager who despite displaying a constant hatred
toward Chelsea FC now found himself at the helm thanks to some terrible
judgement from a Russian billionaire.
There was a march down the Fulham Road where fans held ‘Rafa
Out’ banners and endlessly chanted the name of Roberto Di Matteo. The resentful
booing and chanting was not to be stopped on the streets, it continued within
the stadium walls throughout the 90 minutes. The sheer levels of animosity and
hostility from the home supporters was unlike anything I had ever seen before. The
Chelsea faithful even clapped throughout the 16th minute – Di
Matteo’s number from his playing days.
David Luiz was a defensive liability yet again this week and
its clear the Chelsea fans are beginning to grow tired of the Brazilian’s
antics. Perhaps the club can learn from Everton; the Toffee’s moved their
eccentric Afro up the field and now Fellaini seemingly scores every week. Luiz
would be a great defensive midfielder in my opinion and moving him out of
defence would lower the blood pressure of every fan inside Stamford Bridge.
